Your Times Are In God’s Hands – Psalm 31:15
My times are in Your hand;
Rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me.
Reflection
Focus on the first part of this psalm for a moment: “My times are in Your hand.” Time is so very precious. It is the one commodity that once gone, forever gone. Not only can we never get it back, it has the power to affect our mood. If there are too many demands on our time, for example, we will feel out of control and stressed. If it goes too fast or too slow, to some degree, our emotions will be affected.
While it may feel strange to view time from a different perspective, viewing it as a gift from God will give us a peace about life that transcends understanding. Instead of trying to control it, we will begin treasuring it knowing that it is best kept in God’s hands. Not only is God the Author of all time, He is the author of your time.
By keeping this perspective, knowing God is in control of all things at all times, what happens around you will cease to cause you stress. Every moment of every day will be seen as a gift from God — His grace in action in your life. Simply put, keeping a right perspective about time will allow you to relax knowing that you cannot control what only God can. As the psalmist rightly said, your times are in His hands. He knows what you need, when you need it and on what time-table you are able to handle it. You need only to trust Him … with your life, with your time, and with these times.
Prayer
Thank You, Father, for creating this time and this space for us to live in. Help us to see all time as a gift … and to use it wisely. Help us to relinquish our feelings of ownership of this time and its circumstances, and instead offer it all to You for Your greater glory and command. We love You, Lord, and we know that You are perfectly in control of all things at all times. Thanks be to God! It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
