May my prayer be counted as incense before You…
Psalm 141:2
May Your Prayer Be Counted as Incense – Psalm 141:2
May my prayer be counted as incense before You;
the raising of my hands as the evening offering.
Reflection
While the thought of trying to appease God may seem a bit foreign to us, in ancient times, rituals were very much a part of people’s worship. You may not burn incense for any spiritual reason, but you more than likely pray and that is a ritual — an act of your worship. The lifting of your hands during a worship song is another type of ritual.
There is something powerful to be said about showing God our praise through outward expression. The psalmist himself pleaded, “May my prayer be counted as incense before You; the raising of my hands as the evening offering.” Not only was the psalmist showing God his praise, he was asking that the offering be acceptable to Him. God gave us a mind, body, and senses to be used for praising and worshipping Him — our Lord and Savior. We are to praise Him in the morning, afternoon and evening. Everything we do should, in one way or another, be an act of our worship … even if only proclaiming, “Thank You, Jesus.” Today, ritualize your prayer life as an act of solemn worship. Whatever praises we lift to Heaven, always come back to us tenfold and wrapped in supernatural blessing.
Prayer
God, we praise You for the great King that You are … but also as the lover and keeper of our souls. We are so thankful that our lives belongs to You, and we hope that our prayers be counted also as sweet incense before You; the raising of our hands and the bending of our knees as holy offerings before You. Continue to show us the way, Jesus. Your will is our deepest desire. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
