God Will Arm You With Strength and Keep Your Way Secure – Psalm 18:32

It is God Who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure.

Reflection

Because of the mighty battles the psalmist, King David won, he knew a thing or two about having the victory. He was also wise and humble enough to know (and proclaim) the Source of his life-saving power. David knew that in his own feeble and finite strength he could do nothing, but that with God he could do all things (Phil. 4:13): “I [Jesus] am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing” (Jn 15:5).

Today’s psalm is a great reminder that God is the Source of our strength. Just like He was the catalyst for the psalmist’s victories of old, so is He for us today. The question is do you trust Him? Do you stand before that proverbial “mountain” in your life and proclaim: “You come against me with […], but I come against you in the Name of the Lord Almighty!” (1 Sam. 17:45) In order for us to be successful — victorious! — like our forefathers were, we must use the (spiritual) weaponry God gave us, i.e. His Word (our offensive weapon), prayer, the Name of Jesus, etc. He gave us these tools so that no evil could come against us. But this supernatural and impenetrable gift from above does us no good if we do not use it. And in order to use it, we must believe.

The next time you are going through a difficult situation in life, do not rely on your own (short-sighted) wisdom or strength. Instead, rely on the God of your victorious ancestors, the mighty God of Heaven and earth, Creator of all things, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is your Source of power for all things, and He will always lead your heart and mind in the right direction. So long as you keep the faith, calling out to Him in your time of need, He has promised to fight your battle for you; to arm you with strength and make your way perfect. With Christ, prepare for the victory!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, today we vow to bring all our battles – our anxieties, fears and worries – to You. As we suit up in Your Armor, we pray for the grace of divine wisdom, humility and courage like David. May we proudly confess as he did that You are our strength; that apart from You, the Vine, we can do no good thing. Thank You, Father, for arming us with Your strength and power; thank You for showing us the perfect way forward. If You are for us, who dare be against us? We believe and profess that we can do all things in You Who strengthens us – thanks be to God! It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.

It is God Who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure”Psalm 18:32.
