Reflection
What does it mean to ‘set the Lord continually before’ you? Believe it or not, you are doing that right now. Right this moment you are taking time out of your day to consider Your Creator and focus on faith … the most important thing you can do.
To set the Lord “continually” before us means to transform our every day lives into one, long continuous prayer (or act of devotion). This simply means that no matter what we are doing, we involve the Lord. When getting out of bed for example, we give Him thanks for another day. While working, pause every now and then and say: “Lord, give me strength.” When running errands, thank Him for your working car; for the gift of finance. If you are out to eat with friends and family say: “Lord, thank You for my beautiful gift of family and community.” Even during unforeseen challenges, honor God by saying: “Lord, use this event to make me strong. I trust in You.”
By making God a priority, praising Him continuously throughout the day, we are given special graces and, thus, become blessed. The Lord shows up in ways we cannot imagine … and the psalmist experienced this firsthand. In setting the Lord continually before himself, David was able to proclaim: “I will not be shaken.” No person, place or thing could cause him to stumble (without it being the will of God) because God Himself was at his right hand.
Can you imagine looking to your side and seeing Almighty God standing beside you? You wouldn’t be worried about anything either because you would know undoubtedly who was standing with you. Well, this is exactly what happens when we “set God continually before us.” He not only guards our every step and provides for our every need, He fights our every battle. This is when life becomes super cool; when life becomes supernatural. But we have to do our part. Like the psalmist, we must continuously set God before us, thanking Him and trusting Him to take care of us. It is then God will show up in mighty ways. It is then, like David, you will have nothing to fear.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being so present and approachable for us. We choose today to set You before us; to keep You as a first priority in our lives. While we desire for everything to run smoothly in life, we desire above all to do Your holy will. Give us an unbreakable courage and discipline like King David. Help us to resist the temptation to look to man first for Providence and protection. Give us stronger eyes of faith to see You standing before us in all that we do and are called to do. Good Lord, keep us guided and anchored by Your mighty hand so that we can proclaim as the psalmist did that You are at the right hand of ours. We love You, We adore You and we praise You all the days of our life. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
