Put Your Trust in God – Psalm 56:3
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.
Reflection
A loud crash in the middle of the night. Unexpected footsteps coming closer in a dark parking garage. A ringing phone at 3:00am. We could go on and on. No matter how brave we think we are, certain situations quicken the pulse and send us into flight mode. While we have heard, time and time again that, if we walk with the Lord we have nothing to fear, let’s be honest … certain situations in life are just scary!
But we are not called to be fearless in our own strength. In our own might, sheer bravery in every life battle is impossible. The flesh is weak no matter how willing the spirit may be (Matt. 26:41). But this is precisely why God reminds us that we have nothing to fear with Him; that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. He warns us that in this life, we will have trouble. We will find ourselves caught up in one battle (even if only spiritually) after another. Thus, without faith, we will be tempted to fear. This is why God wants us to trust Him with our whole heart today. To strengthen our faith by handing over every worry to Him. When we do, when we step out in faith, the Lord not only strengthens us, He gives us a divine peace that transcends all understanding — even in the midst of the most scary of circumstances.
So no matter what you are going through today, trust in God’s Word. Trust that He is indeed with you through every battle. Trust Him when He tells you that you have nothing to fear … ever. After all, think about it: If the Lord of Heaven and earth, Creator of all things (even the enemy!), is for you, who dare be against you?!
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You” – Psalm 56:3.
Prayer
Lord, we don’t know what is going to happen today. There could be many things that tempt us to fear. But we are making a decision right now that if anything or anyone does come against us, we will trust in You. We believe Your Word and trust Your power with all our heart, mind and soul. Help us, Good Father, to pray like the blessed gentile father in Mark did: “I do believe, help my unbelief!” (Mk 9:24) It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
