The Heavens Are The Work of Your Hands – 102:25

In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth,
and the Heavens are the work of Your hands.

Reflection

Have you ever watched a house being built from the ground up? The base poured determines the size, scope and shape of what will be built upon it. It is not glorious, there are no “bells and whistles” or anything pretty to look at. It is usually made of concrete, flat and, on face value, doesn’t look like anything special. Yet, it is absolutely essential to get right. As it turns out, the foundation is everything. And this is exactly how it is with the foundation of our lives. Our inner foundation may not look like anything great from the outside — quiet, humble, built over time without any notice from others — but the success of our lives depends on this very foundation. Just as with the foundation of a house, if our foundation is strong, the rest of what is built upon it will not only be beautiful, it will flourish.

What would a house be without a strong foundation? Similarly, what would a foundation be without a beautiful home built upon it? God’s design for His creation is that we would have both a solid foundation of faith and, subsequently, a beautiful life bearing much fruit. So how is your foundation today? The beautiful thing about a foundation built with Christ is that we can always pour new concrete. It is never too late, and it is always worth it.

In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the Heavens are the work of Your hands” –Psalm 102:25.

Prayer

Lord, help us to understand the role of having a firm foundation in our lives. Teach us how to work on our inner, contemplative lives before getting to the handiwork in Your vineyard. Show us how to first lay a strong and immovable foundation of Your love so that everything we put our hands to will prosper. We can do no good thing apart from You, Lord, and we ask You today for the special grace of wisdom and perseverance. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray. Amen.
