We Are His People, The Sheep of His Pasture – Psalm 100:3

Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Reflection

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. In ancient times, being a sheep in a pasture meant that you belonged to a family. Sometimes the sheep pens were very small with only a few sheep, and they would sleep very near to the family. When you think of belonging today, don’t think about the acres and acres of farms in this modern world. Think rather of an intimate setting where a Shepherd, the Shepherd, cares deeply about each and every one of His sheep. In fact, He cares for us so deeply that even when one of us goes astray, He will quickly leave the ninety-nine to go looking for His one (Mt. 18:12; Lk 15:4).

As you go through your day today, know (and believe!) that you are loved with an agape love — a transcendent and unconditional type of love. Know also that you are being cared for by the Greatest of all Shepherd’s, Jesus Christ, our world’s Lord and Savior. By faith, you belong to His family of believers — a royal family — and are called to carry this sense of belonging with you throughout every day. So take comfort in knowing today that even when you have gone astray, He is still with you. He is still protecting you and summoning you back to Himself with a gentle knocking on the door of your heart. Jesus will never leave you. With Him, you are never alone.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for coming after us when we have gone astray; for making us a part of your royal family. We know that it is not by our doing, but by Your grace and mercy. We are blessed to be welcomed into Your arms today. Help us to never take this divine blessing for granted. You are faithful, and with You by our side we have nothing to fear. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture” –Psalm 100:3.
