God Sent His Son to Rescue You: Epiphany – 1 John 2
“My children, I am writing this to you so that you may not commit sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one. He is the expiation for our sins, and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world.”
God sends His Son not to chastise us but to rescue us. Did you ever chase a child because she was headed out into the street toward danger and you wanted to save her? That’s what God did when He sent His Son Jesus. He sent Him to chase after us … and He continues to chase us every day of our lives. What grace! What loving mercy!
Over and over again, God must come after us because we easily drift into the world, into sin, and away from Him. The Latin word for sin is peccatum which means “to miss the mark.” Jesus came to earth so that we would not ‘miss the mark’ with our lives but rather hit the mark by living in close relationship with Him. A relationship that leads to freedom, peace and eternal life.
Jesus is our advocate with the Father. Ask Him today to help you ‘hit the mark’ and to live your life for Him, by Him, and with Him. What glory awaits those who do.
