Hear Me, My God, As I Voice My Complaint–Psalm 64:1-8
1 Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint;
protect my life from the threat of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked,
from the plots of evildoers.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords
and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.
4 They shoot from ambush at the innocent;
they shoot suddenly, without fear.
5 They encourage each other in evil plans,
they talk about hiding their snares;
they say, “Who will see it?”
6 They plot injustice and say,
“We have devised a perfect plan!”
Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.
7 But God will shoot them with His arrows;
they will suddenly be struck down.
8 He will turn their own tongues against them
and bring them to ruin;
all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
O how relatable the psalmist’s plea is today: “Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint! Protect my life from the threats of the enemy.”
Petitions and requests mount as the soul becomes inundated and burdened by negative news, violent images, and destructive messages. We strive and struggle, trying to live amongst the enemy of our forefathers. Those who’ve been swept away conspire against the innocent — plotting and planning with “swords and arrows” — encouraging one another with evil plans of destruction (v 3). “Who will see,” they say, “for we have devised the perfect plan” (v 5). And here we are, finding ourselves shouting to the Heaven’s as the modern day David — Lord, hear our prayer!
Yes it is true, the human mind and heart are cunning indeed (v 6) — easily confused and carried away by the crafty schemes of the devil. But, fear not! Our God is still — and will always be — on the Throne. He knows all things, even those things hidden in darkness; the beginning from the end and the end from the beginning. He is the ultimate Vindicator, striking down those who work against righteousness, and bringing them to ruin (v 7-8). The end, my friend, has already been decided.
If you are feeling overwhelmed today, rest assured your Heavenly Father has a master plan of restoration and redemption. Take a few moments to reflect on who He is: Lord (Jehovah); Creator (Elohim); Supplier (El Shaddai); Master (Adonai); Provider (Jehovah Jireh); Healer (Jehovah Rophe); Protector (Jehovah Nissi); Sanctifier (Jehovah Makadesh)… the final Authority of all salvation. While things may not (seem) to make a lot of sense in the natural, trust that it makes perfect sense to Him in the spiritual. Instead of filling your mind with deceptive news that leads only to fear and anger, fill your soul with the Good News that leads only to peace and joy.
Trust Him. For His great love for you will not fail (John 3:16-17).
“We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him” –Rom. 8:28.
