Verse of the Day: Always Be Prepared to Give an Answer–1 Peter 3:15-16

Verse of the Day: Always Be Prepared to Give an Answer–1 Peter 3:15-16

“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander” –1 Peter 3:15-16.

There are a few commands in this verse we should pay close attention to. First, to revere Christ as Lord. This is true for a multitude of reasons but, for simplification purposes, so our lives are balanced here on earth and so that we may enjoy eternal life. Second, be prepared to give an answer for your faith. Know what you stand for and why. Know your Christian history and why God does what He does and wills what He wills. Lastly, but as equally as important, to (always) answer for your faith with “gentleness and respect” (v 16). This will keep you free from sin — your soul light and unencumbered — and, so that, your evangelization will not fall upon rocky soil. Despite your patient and gentle response, if someone still speaks maliciously against you, the Lord your God shall be your Vindicator.
