Verse of the Day: Take Care That the Light in You Does Not Become Darkness–Luke 10:34-36

“The lamp of the body is your eye. When your eye is sound, then your whole body is filled with light, but when it is bad, then your body is in darkness. Take care, then, that the light in you [does] not become darkness. If your whole body is full of light, and no part of it is in darkness, then it will be as full of light as a lamp illuminating you with its brightness” –Luke 10:34-36.

Take care that the light in you does not become darkness…

Jesus compared clarity of sight to clarity of discernment (divine insights and enlightenment). In His day, it was commonly believed that we see because of a light source within our eye that illuminated our path. Just as healthy eyes enable us to see well, a life of purity – living life according to God’s Word and will – enables a person to see God and thus live the best life. Sin, evil, and immorality on the other hand blinds a person to the beauty of faith, divine providence, true Wisdom, as well as the eternal gift of selfless service to others … and, ultimately leads to ruin.

This verse reminds us that by orienting ourselves to the ways and will of God (daily!), we will begin to more clearly discern Truth — divine fact from worldly fiction — the way in which we should go. And in so doing, we will begin to live the life He had always proposed for us. The divine life. A life of inner peace, joy and harmony regardless of the circumstances prevailing us, as well as an eternal life of paradise in His presence.
