Be Merciful to Me, Lord, For I Am In Distress–Psalm 31:1-5

Be Merciful to Me, Lord, For I Am In Distress–Psalm 31:1-5

In You, Lord, I have taken refuge;
    let me never be put to shame;
    deliver me in Your righteousness.
Turn Your ear to me,
    come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
    a strong fortress to save me.
Since You are my rock and my fortress,
    for the sake of Your Name lead and guide me.
Keep me free from the trap that is set for me,
    for You are my refuge.
Into Your hands I commit my Spirit;
    deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.

We should do as King David did and take refuge in the Lord (v 1), trusting Him completely in all our ways and for all things — even seemingly small things. Like David, we can ask our Lord for things such as answering our prayers “quickly” and protecting us from being put to shame (v 1-2). Since He is our Rock and our fortress, let’s get in the habit of relying on Him and Him alone. Today, do as King David did in verse 5 and ‘commit your Spirit to the Lord.’ God wants to help you. He will deliver you. And He’s not only faithful to do so – He’s the only One Who can.
