Verse of the Day: Why Did Jesus Come For You?–Mark 2:15-17
“While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with Him and His disciples, for there were many who followed Him. When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw Him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked His disciples: ‘Why does He eat with tax collectors and sinners?’
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners‘” –Mark 2:15-17.
In contrast to the Pharisees (the self-righteous), who look down on and separate themselves from people they perceive to be lower than themselves (“sinners” = you and me), Christ actively seeks us out. His primary mission is to bestow on us all the great graces and mercy from His love. Just as a physician is called to heal the sick, Jesus came to heal (and save) all of us.
[Read this verse throughout the day today. Reflect on how Jesus came, ministered, died, and was raised again for you and your salvation. Meditate on how very much He loves you.]
