Today’s Lenten Reflection
When was the last time a rainbow captivated your attention? We sometimes see double-rainbows so magnificent we’re compelled to stop whatever we’re doing and stare in wonder at God’s glory. No wonder the rainbow was given as a sign of God’s covenant to humanity – it will get our attention! The same rainbow given long ago still has and always will have a powerful grip on the human heart. After all, that was the plan all along.
Within the vibrant colors spreading across the sky, the rainbow not only reminds us of the brilliance of God’s handiwork but also of His promise to us. In other words, the sight of a rainbow is biblical. The Lord told Noah in the Book of Genesis, the first Book of creation, that whenever he saw a rainbow he was to remember the Lord’s covenant with him – with all mankind – and that it would serve as a permanent reminder that we are never to be forgotten nor abandoned. What a promise!
First Sunday of Lent Meditation
The next time you see a rainbow in the sky, thank God for His covenant with you. Even if you only see a tiny sliver of the rainbow prism, knowing what it means should hit your soul with full force. Even the slightest glimmer of a rainbow should make us giddy about God’s love for us; His unfailing goodness and omnipresence. You may feel compelled to capture that moment by bottling it up for a rainy day when you need this sign as a reminder of His everlasting promise to you and your loved ones. Son and daughter of God, His eyes are upon you. You are loved by Him beyond measure. Praise Him!
Lenten Prayer
Creator God, we bask in the glory of Your grand and master plan; the universe spread out before us in all its beauty and wonder. Thank You for the blessings of this earth in which we live and for the visible reminders of Your handiwork at work in and throughout our lives. Loving Father, reveal to us our great worth in Your eyes and how we are to serve You more faithfully here below. We desire only to one day rejoice with You in Heaven where all temptations and darkness disappear. Lord Jesus, it is in Your most sacred heart we place all our trust; and it is only in Your good and holy Name we pray. Amen.
