Sing Praise To The Lord and Be Not Silent – Psalm 30:12
That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
Reflection
The psalmist writes that his soul will always sing praises to the Lord and that he will not be silent. He is committed to worshipping the Lord forever – both this side of Heaven and with the angels for all eternity. While this commitment is admirable, it is also expected. Christians are exhorted to sing praises of worship to their Creator all the days of their lives. Sadly, living devout Christian lives – true Christ-driven and sacrificial lives – is becoming a thing of the past; a lifestyle believed to be “out-dated and unrealistic” for the modern-day man.
But the truth is, the expectation to live a holy and Christ-centered life never changes. It is not enough to praise and worship God every once in awhile either. We are called to make it a part of our daily routines, giving thanks to Him forever. This way of life was not difficult for or foreign to our early Christian ancestors. It was a given. For them, there was no other way. Worshipping God was a top priority … as well as an honor. They understood well that through praise and worship, not only would God’s blessings rain down upon them, the enemy would be kept firmly at bay.
The same reverent devoutness needed for daily battle during the psalmist’s day, is the same reverent devoutness needed for us today. As you prayerfully meditate on this psalm verse, think about the psalmist’s commitment to praise and worship; to never be silent and to give thanks to God forever and at any cost. Just like God protected the faithful of the past, He will protect all of us today. But we must do our part. We cannot be silent or become complacent. The Lord must remain praised and worshipped everyday and in every place … for where the Lord is, the victory will be also.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, fill our hearts with songs of praise for You. Strengthen our faith, courage and perseverance to follow You at any cost. Today, Lord, we vow as the psalmist did to give You all our praise. You are more than deserving of all we have to give. Please transform our hearts into hearts of celebration, overflowing with love for You. Give us the grace to honor You no matter what lies ahead, to sing Your praises all the days long and to never be silent. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
