Trust in Him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to Him…
Psalm 62:8
Trust in Him at All Times – Psalm 62:8
Trust in Him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to Him,
for God is our refuge.
Reflection
The psalmist begins this verse by saying, “Trust in Him at all times, you people…”. Notice how he is addressing more than one person. This is because our ancient Christian ancestors traveled in community. While it is important to spend time on our personal relationship with God, there is much more to our faith than just ourselves. We were in fact created to be in community with one another … and there are many reasons for this. One important benefit is that through close community we are encouraged and we encourage others. This is especially important in times of distress.
Think of the last time you felt anxious or discouraged. Who were you able to share those feelings with? Together we pour out our hearts to the Lord for we are on this journey together. When we live in community (and in unity) as the Body of Christ, we make God very happy. Our prayers even become stronger: “Where two or three gather in My Name, there am I with them” (Matt. 18:20). Take a moment today to draw closer to the community you have and encourage them. Thank God also for bringing them into your life. You will need them; and they will need you.
“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge” –Psalm 62:8.
Prayer
God, thank You for the people You have placed in our lives that we now enjoy community with. Help us to be even more intentional about developing these close relationships — especially with those who encourage us in our faith and with those we too need to encourage. Above all, Lord, help us to see the people of our communities through Your eyes … as sons and daughters of Christ. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray. Amen.
