Reflection
Any long journey will have its ups and downs. Even the best holiday will involve a few “valley” moments. Throughout the centuries, however, people who have put their faith in Christ have been endowed with divine grace for every circumstance, i.e. supernatural protection, provision, courage, strength, guidance, etc. The psalmist experienced the power of God working in his own life, even amidst the most terrifying of moments. Because of this witness, he confidently wrote: “Indeed, goodness and mercy [pursues] me all the days of my life…”. Not only did he experience firsthand God’s power, love and loyalty in his life — but God was actually pursuing him. No matter where he went or what happened, God was right there … and His mercy would continue to pursue him all the days of his life.
No matter what is happening along your “journey” today, this psalm should give you great comfort. Just as it were for King David, the God of all creation has chosen you and is also pursuing you. Because of His great love for you, He cares about every little thing that happens in your life; and He wants to help you. But in order for divine grace to be effective, we must do our part. We must work with God by having faith in His Word, and by putting all our trust in Him. When you do, the Lord promises that you will “dwell in His House forever.” And when you dwell in the House of the Lord of all lord’s, friend, you no longer have anything to fear. After all, if God is with you … who dare be against you? (Rom. 8:31)
Prayer
Jesus, we choose to be positive about the future knowing that Your grace and mercy follows us. Help us to gain a divine perspective of what real goodness is working in and through our lives. While the journey of life is not always easy, we find great solace in the fact that You are with us; that You have chosen us and pursue us. We trust in Your goodness, Lord. Please help us in our unbelief. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
