Reflection
Is there a heaviness in your heart today? A feeling of dread you cannot seem to shake? Maybe there is something going on in your life causing you to worry; a situation from the past still ailing you. Whatever it may be, a heavy heart is wearisome. The psalmist also knew this feeling well. He was plagued by a decision made in a moment of temptation which caused him to sin and turn from God. But while turning from God cost him dearly he realized that, despite his shortcomings, God was always with him. No matter how far he strayed, no matter how gloomy the circumstance, the love and mercy of God was boundless and able to save.
“For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive; abundant in mercy to all who call upon You!” These were the penned words of the psalmist when, after calling upon the Lord from a pit of despair, He rescued him. Notice that when David was in a low point in life, He called out to the Lord — not a friend nor a co-worker or neighbor. God. David knew that God alone was able to rescue him from every enemy or ailment — and it is the same for you and I today.
If you are feeling heavy-hearted today, go directly to your Heavenly Father. Faithfully proclaim this verse as the psalmist did and ask God to encourage and lift your spirit. By your faith, the Lord promises to deliver you. Your heavy-heartedness will soon be replaced with a spirit of peace and joy; a life of victory and testimony. The Lord loves you very much. He knows what you are going through today, and He is waiting for you to call upon His Name.
Prayer
Father, thank You for reminding us of Your unfathomable goodness and mercy. Forgive us for any bitterness or complaint harboring deep within our hearts. Help us to root out any anger or frustration we have, and to turn it all over to You whom we trust. You make all things good for those who love You and, thus, have nothing to fear. Give us the grace to offer up our day-to-day trials and suffering as reparation for sin committed against Your Most Sacred Heart. Moreover, show unto us Your unfailing love and protection as we faithfully enter another day of battle. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
