Reflection
Have you ever had a moment when you have felt completely out of control — either physically or emotionally? A car accident, loss of job or dear relationship, an unforeseen diagnosis or some other frightening instance? There are sure to be moments in our lives when our flesh and heart will fail us. In those moments, we will quickly realize that we were never in control of our destination in the first place; nor are we in control of the outcome today. Let’s be honest, that terrifies us. Loss of control.
Throughout Holy Scripture, our Lord reminds us that, whether we like it or not, He is in control — we are not. Never have been, never will be. Now this is very good news for those who know God; who know that His way is the best way and always for our good. But for those who do not know Him, this becomes a real challenge … a major struggle of the ego. Regardless, this immutable Truth remains: God is in control. And even though our flesh and our heart will fail us, the Lord is, as the psalmist rightfully proclaimed, the Rock of our heart; our portion forever.
In those moments when control is lost and fear and anxiety overcome you, prayerfully reflect on the words of this Psalm. It is a divine promise that was written down for you from the beginning of time: God is your strength. He is in perfect control — and He never loses it. So when your life is out of control or seemingly ripped from your hands, know that it still rests firmly in Your Father’s grasp. He is your Protector and your portion; all that you need, wholly and unequivocally enough. Release yourself then, all the cares, worries and desires of your heart, into the control of the only One who never loses it. He knows all that you need … and is the only One who can give it to you.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, when our hearts and minds are weak, we thank You that You are our strength and our portion. That Your stability and power will never fail us. We choose today to rely solely on Your strength, so please give us the courage to relinquish our wordly and limited idea of control for Your true, Holy and divine authority. We desire only Your will, Lord. Show us the way to true surrender and how to entrust every area of our lives to You. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
