human beings that You care for them?

Who Are We That God Should Care For Us? – Psalm 8:4

Reflection
If you have ever watched a scientific program about our universe, you will likely feel overwhelmed by how colossal and complex our universe and surrounding galaxies are. So complex in fact, science cannot explain most all of it. It is far beyond our human comprehension and capabilities. In addition, the study of our universe can oftentimes make us feel tiny and insignificant — especially when considering that, as a planet, earth is nothing in comparison with the rest of the cosmos! In the end, we realize that we are indeed small, we will never understand it all this side of Heaven and, most importantly, we need our Creator — our Savior.
This begs the question: What are mere mortals that God, the Lord over all, would care for us? The Book of Genesis tells us clearly that God has made us in His image. In other words, we are His beloved children! We were created with intention and specific detail for the primary purpose of living in relationship with Him here on earth and forever in Heaven. In short, God created us in and for love. When we truly understand that we have been created in the image and likeness of Almighty God to share in a relationship with Him forever, our perspective on life (what matters and what does not) drastically changes. We begin to see our purpose in life, not as the world sees it, but as God sees it. A purpose so much bigger than ourselves and one with eternal ramifications.
Simply put, while we may feel small in comparison with the enormity of the cosmos, or even in this fast-moving world of ours, with God we are mightier then all of it! With Him, we can do all things; what once was impossible is now possible; the unfathomable becomes fathomable. In the words of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior Himself: “If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me [however] you can do nothing” (Jn 15:5).

Prayer
Lord, while we may not feel significant in light of this great big universe, we know from Your Word and from Your actions that You love us. In fact, You tell us that You adore us! O how great that the Creator of the cosmos could love us with an unconditional love; how He could choose us and give us life everlasting! Thank You, God, for being so great and powerful, and yet so personal. Thank You for loving us enough to pursue us; for giving us the opportunity to share in a relationship with You both here on earth and in Your eternal abode. While we are not worthy of Your love, we give great glory for it! Thank You for loving us! Help us to love and respect You, Father, by growing in holiness as we ought. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
