Keep me as the apple of Your eye;

Reflection

Parents will sometimes describe their children as “the apple of their eye.” What they mean is that their child is at the center of their world. Rarely do good parents think about their choices and decisions without thinking about how it might affect their children. More often than not, they will make choices entirely for their children’s benefit. In short, good parents always think of what is best for their children. They protect them and make them feel secure at all costs, just as a mother hen protects her chicks beneath her wings.

With this in mind, think now of the parental kind of love that God must have for His children — for you. If we, sinful men, can love our children beyond measure, imagine the kind of love our perfect, holy, all-loving Father in Heaven who is love has for His children? Unfathomable! An unconditional love that never ever ceases. A love so strong and so fierce that it is incomprehensible. Our God is the perfect parent; and He is fully for you and will wholly protect you. Just think, you are the apple of the Creator of the universe’s eye! When we take the time to wrap our minds around this, around His unwavering love pouring out from Heaven for us, it becomes easy to love Him in return and to do all that He asks of us. Today, accept this love and thank Him for loving you. Afterwards, ask God what you can do for Him.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, our all-loving Prodigal Father, thank You for having the kind of love for us that we may never have experienced as a child or perhaps don’t feel today. Help us to accept that You, from the beginning of the world, have always wanted this kind of relationship with us and, in so doing, help us to love You with the same kind of fierce, unconditional love that You have for us. It is in Your good and holy Name we pray, Amen.
