The Lord is Coming! Christmas Eve Prayer: Psalm 96:11-13

Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
    let the sea and what fills it resound;
   let the plains be joyful and all that is in them.
Then let all the trees of the forest rejoice
   before the Lord who comes,
    who comes to govern the earth,
To govern the world with justice
    and the peoples with faithfulness.

This psalm tells us that even inanimate creation rejoices and offers praise to God. All of creation is joyful, beautiful, and full of meaning, even if it seems purpose-free. The whole of creation — the overflowing abundance, the attention to detail, and the many ways to interact and connect with each other — spread joy and refer to the Creator. The joy on earth echoes God’s pleasure in His creation and is the true form of worship.
