The Lord is near to the brokenhearted,
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm for Reflection: Those Crushed in Spirit — Psalm 34:18
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Prayerfully reflect on this psalm verse throughout the day today. Slowly meditate on every word: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted … and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Think about what is causing you heartbreak. Thoughts of our world? Nation? The suffering? Maybe family or friendships? Whatever it is, life is full of ups and downs; and the greater we love the greater we will feel the pain.
As a follower of Christ however, we have already been warned that in this world — which is not our home — we will have trouble. But as we sojourn through this land, we are also promised that God is with us. More specifically, He draws near the brokenhearted; saving the crushed in Spirit. This means that God is beside you in your pain today. And not only that, He promises to rescue you from it! This should bring you great peace and comfort. God promises to save you from all that ails you! So instead of worrying, trust in God and thank Him for the victory.
