True Love Keeps God’s Commands–John 14:21
“The one who has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me” -John 14:21.
Loving God is a wholehearted and life-long journey that leads to total fulfillment. This kind of love however, is not a part-time job or Sunday only affair. It requires daily effort in the form of obedience, surrender and sacrifice. A consistent desire to treasure who God is and seek His way. As the relationship matures and the love for Him deepens, every thought, word, and deed becomes another way to say “I love You” to God. And loving Him becomes the perfect why behind everything else we do.
The first step toward this loving and life-changing journey begins by confessing our faith in His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (1 John 4:15; 5:1). It progresses by way of learning (reading the Word of God) and praying (commune and trust), and is fueled by ongoing obedience (John 14:21). It is our love that makes following Him a delight rather than a chore (1 John 5:13) and, in a cyclical-type fashion, the (supernatural) peace and joy we obtain makes us love Him even more.
As you reflect on this verse today, and as you move forward in your personal journey with Him, remember that God tells us we show our love to Him also by the way we treat, serve, and love others (1 John 3:17; 4:11-21). Every conversation and interaction you have today — with a neighbor, passerby, spouse or child — is another opportunity to demonstrate your love (and obedience) for God. And this is who God loves to bless! How we respect and care for those around us reveals the true sincerity of our love and respect for God.
