Psalm 13: How Long Will You Hide Your Face From Me, Lord?
1 How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
4 and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in Your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in Your salvation.
6 I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for He has been good to me.
Have you ever felt like God was hiding His face from you? Like He had forgotten about you? Or maybe you’ve felt like your enemy was winning while you waited patiently for God’s intervention? The psalmist makes clear that you are not alone. We are not alone.
There will be times when it seems as though God has forgotten you. Your prayers go unanswered and nothing seems to be working right. But like the psalmist, we are to press forward in our faith especially in times of great testing. The Lord’s love is unfailing. Even though the psalmist, like us, wrestles with pleas of “How long, Lord, how long?” – in the end, he tells God he trusts Him … because“He has always been good.”
God wants to hear from you. He wants you to openly share your feelings and emotions with Him. What’s most important is that you always return to center – praising, trusting and thanking Him for all He’s done and all of Who He is. Rest assured, God will deliver you. He loves you more than you can fathom. Trust Him.
“Lord, Jesus, Thank You. Forgive me when I begin to doubt and complain. You are a faithful Father and I know You are working all things together for my good – even when I don’t deserve it. You are merciful to me, Lord, and I will praise You all the days of my life. In Your precious Name I pray, Amen.”
