Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;
those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
Psalm 12:1
Are There Any Faithful Left? – Psalm 12
1 Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;
those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
2 Everyone lies to their neighbor;
they flatter with their lips
but harbor deception in their hearts.
3 May the Lord silence all flattering lips
and every boastful tongue—
4 those who say,
“By our tongues we will prevail;
our own lips will defend us—who is Lord over us?”
5 “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan,
I will now arise,” says the Lord.
“I will protect them from those who malign them.”
6 And the words of the Lord are flawless,
like silver purified in a crucible,
like gold refined seven times.
7 You, Lord, will keep the needy safe
and will protect us forever from the wicked,
8 who freely strut about
when what is vile is honored by the human race.
Reflection
There is an old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me!” According to the Word of God, however, words, especially by loved ones, can and do hurt. The psalmist felt immense pain from the words of the “wicked.” He cried out for the Lord because, as he said, “the godly man is no more.” He was surrounded by evil on all sides. And maybe you may feel the same way today.
With all the pain and frustration the psalmist felt, there was but one place he could turn for peace and refuge — the infallible Word of God. He knew the Lord’s Word would protect and heal him.
The psalmist reminds us today of the power of God’s Word. If you are feeling tired and hopeless, do as the psalmist did and turn to your Heavenly Father. Read His Word daily and talk openly to Him about all that you are going through. The Good Lord promises to keep you safe. So no matter how things appear today, know and believe that He is always on your side. Through His Word, He will guide you. Trust Him.
