Verse of the Day: November 16th — Psalm 34:5
“I sought the Lord, and He answered me,
delivered me from all my fears.”
It is unusual for a ‘psalm of praise’ to offer instruction to the faithful, but Psalm 34 does precisely that. Saint Ambrose, a theologian and one of the most influential ecclesiastical figures of the 4th century, said: “The Lord is always near those who sincerely invoke Him, that is, those who have recourse to Him with upright (obedient) faith, firm hope, and perfect charity. In fact, [the Lord] knows what you stand in need of even before you ask Him for it; He is always ready to meet the needs of those who serve Him faithfully” (St. Ambrose, In Epistolam Beati Pauli ad Philippenses).
St. Ambrose is right … and God, faithful in His promises, means what He says. When we seek the Lord with all our heart and soul; when we are obedient to His Laws and precepts, faithful in our trust of Him, He will answer us. He will deliver us from our fears and give us the victory. If you are feeling worried, anxious or uncertain about events taking place in your life or in the world around you, prayerfully meditate on this Verse of the Day. Let it remind you of God’s faithful promise to you — if you seek Him, He will answer you. He will deliver you from your fear, stress and anxiousness, and give you a lasting peace that transcends understanding. It is in God we must trust … for every true victory comes only through Him. So as you wait for deliverance today, trust that He knows exactly what you need and is faithful to deliver you.
Prayer of the Day
“Lord Jesus, we come to You with humble and needy hearts. We know that You are faithful in Your Word, and that You know what we need before we’ve even asked of it. Even though, we ask for You to seek our hearts and our minds today; see to it that our requests our true, honorable and in alignment with Your will. As we put all our trust in You, help us to be patient — unwavering in our trust that You will deliver us from all that ails us. We love You and we praise You, Lord. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.”
