Verse of the Day: Psalm 121:1

Verse of the Day: November 2 — Psalm 121:1-2

“I raise my eyes toward the mountains.
From whence shall come my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2

The faithful must distinguish between the true “mountain” of Jesus Christ and the rolling hills of idolatry. The world will always try to lure us towards experiences, pleasures, fantasy and blessings ‘of the flesh’ that soon vanish and leave us empty, unfulfilled and searching. But with prayer and perseverance, we’ll have the fortitude to keep our minds and hearts fixed “on the mountains” — on God the Creator — for our strength, protection, and lasting fulfillment.

As you go about your day today, remind yourself to stay focused on things above. Fix your eyes on things eternal; those things that are eternally good and beneficial. Your help has always (and will always) come from the Lord — not the world. As you draw closer to Him in faith, He too will draw closer to you (Js 4:8). And when the Lord draws near to you, everything in life changes for the better. Eyes up!

Today’s Prayer

“Lord, we believe that our help comes from You and You alone. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on things above and not the things of this world. Please strengthen us today by Your Word and Your promises; allow us to feel Your presence working in and through our lives. Above all, we desire to have hearts that seek You first just as the psalmist did. So today we pray for the strength, courage and Wisdom to seek and follow only those things that are eternally beneficial for our soul. We humbly implore Your help in keeping us focused on and obedient to Your divine counsel. We love You, Lord; and our eyes remain fixed on You. In Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.”
