Powerful Prayer of Patience to St. Paul
Patience is such an important virtue that Jesus Christ, our model of all virtues, said: “By your patience you will save your souls.” One pious soul prayed in desperation, “Lord, give me patience and right now!” Today, our patience is being tested by various circumstances throughout the world; and sometimes it seems as if God is distant from both the circumstances and from us. Fortunately, even though we may feel this way at times, we know from His Word that God is never far from us. He is right here, right now, using every circumstance that we face to build strength, character and virtue.
While there are certain things we can do in order to build our patience (because we will need it!), i.e. modeling after Jesus’ life, meditation, going through trials and tribulations with faith, etc.), one way stands out among the rest — prayer! Prayer is incredibly powerful on our walk towards holiness. St. Augustine reminds us all that we are but “beggars before God,” and that God is willing to give to us if we persevere in asking Him. Remember the persistent widow who gained the favor of the callous and cold-hearted judge for the simple reason that she kept begging for his help? That story was left in the Bible for us to contemplate today — “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Mt. 7:7).
As you pray this Powerful Prayer for Patience to St. Paul and as you seek intercession from this great Saint, ask Jesus to give you the wisdom to emulate His holy Saints. Our Lord is always listening to us, and the intercession of His great and holy ones before Him is mighty powerful in the life of every believer.
Powerful Prayer of Patience to St. Paul
O glorious St. Paul,
who from a persecutor of Christianity,
didst become a most ardent apostle of zeal;
and who to make known the
Savior Jesus Christ
unto the ends of the world
didst suffer with joy imprisonment,
scourgings, stonings, shipwrecks
and persecutions of every kind,
and in the end did shed thy blood
to the last drop,
obtain for us the grace to receive,
as favors of the Divine mercy,
infirmities, tribulations, and misfortunes
of the present life, so that the
vicissitudes of this our exile
will not render us cold in the
service of God, but will render us
always more faithful and
more fervent. Amen.
