Prayer For Padre Pio’s Intercession
Gracious God,
You generously blessed Your servant,
Padre Pio, with the gifts of the Spirit.
You marked his body with the five wounds
of Christ Crucified, as a powerful witness
to the saving Passion and Death of Your Son,
and as a stirring inspiration to many people
of Your infinite mercy, forgiveness, and love.
In the confessional, Padre Pio labored
endlessly for the salvation of souls.
Through his prayerful intercession,
many who suffered were healed of
sickness and disease.
Through the intercession of Padre Pio,
I confidently beseech You to grant me

Help me to imitate his example
of prayerful holiness and compassion,
so that I, too, may faithfully follow
the Risen Lord, and one day rejoice

About St. Padre Pio
Padre Pio was born Francesco Forgione in Pietrelcina, Italy in the year 1887. His family lived on a farm and were shepherds. At the age of 16 he entered the novitiate of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars and was ordained when he was 20.
After going home for awhile because of health problems he was sent to the friary of San Giovanni Rotondo where he remained for the rest of his life. While praying before a crucifix on September 20, 1918 Pio received the stigmata wounds of Christ and was the first priest ever to be so blessed. As word spread of this holy priest, especially by American soldiers coming home from WWII with stories about Padre Pio, he himself became the center of pilgrimage for both the powerful and the curious.
Padre Pio is known worldwide for hearing confessions for hours. He is said to have been able to read the consciences of those who held back from disclosing some of their sins. He was also blessed with the ability to bi-locate, levitate and heal the sick with his healing and anointed touch and prayer.
Padre Pio foretold of John Paul II’s papacy when the future pope was a young priest visiting him. He went on to found a hospital that cares for over 60,000 people as well as prayer groups that are still active today. Pio died in 1968 and was canonized in 2002 by Pope John Paul II.
