Today’s Lenten Reflection

Many people today spend most of their time “going through the motions” of life. They work, do chores, cook, clean … and all the other usual suspects of daily living. But the question we need to ask ourselves is are we bearing good fruit out in the world for Christ? It is easy to talk about helping our neighbor, a local community effort or to make plans to call someone we know is lonely, but do we follow through? Many times we get caught up in frivolous distractions like social media or streaming on Netflix and the next thing we know – three, six, twelve more months have passed us by. All these sweet moments – sweet divine graces – just hanging from the vine of life waiting for us to pick them.

The truth is, this life is going by very fast and we must make every effort to work against the lie of evil that we have “all the time in the world” to accomplish what needs to be done. The fact of the matter is God has not promised us tomorrow, only today, and He is calling on all of us to do what needs to be done today – and without delay.

Day 15 Lenten Meditation

When was the last time you took on a project or a volunteer commitment with fervor only to let it wither away due to being distracted, overstretched or maybe becoming convinced that it wouldn’t do much good anyway? The one thing that is needed most in the world right now is a willing presence – in our communities, our Churches, our families and among friends and neighbors. Even if all we have to give is one hour of our time, that is enough. Your presence is enough. You are enough. Today, take all that God has given you out into the world and let it blossom for His glory. Not only will God do something amazing through you for others and bless your life today, you will gain eternal merit with Him for all eternity. What a gift!

Lenten Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving us all that we need, nourishing the soil of our souls so that we can grow and ripen. Help us to do for others what You have done for us and what You have exhorted us to do – to tend to those who could use the light of Your love in their lives. May we always be strong enough to walk in the light of Your holy will. It is in Your good and holy Name we pray, amen.

Today’s suggested Penance

Give away something that you have even if it is just your presence to someone who is in need of assistance.

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves” –Rainer Maria Rilke.
