Most Powerful Intercessory Prayer for Your Children, Relatives, and Loved Ones
We should we be praying unceasingly for our children, relatives, and loved ones. First, because it is so needed in today’s world; but also because it is through our intercessory prayer that God can (and will!) intervene in the lives of His children – our loved ones. And here is something else you should know … when you pray for others, you become blessed in the process. Prayer is cyclical! But before getting into the tried and tested prayer (below), here are a handful of concrete reasons to pray for those we love:
For strength and hope
Everyone needs strength to persevere during difficult times — especially today. But with that strength, we also need hope. Having something to cling to and look forward to is essential for overcoming life’s many trials and unforeseen challenges. Pray that God will give strength and hope to your loved ones, those special people He has placed in your life to well-steward (pray for!).
For protection from sickness
Everyone wants their loved ones to be healthy, especially the people in our lives that we are tasked to love and care for. In these instances, praying for their continued health and/or healing is not only a most charitable act but it (intercessory prayer) works wonders!
For good health and a happy death
Besides saying prayers for the sick and/or healing, we should also be praying for God to maintain the healthy condition of those we know and love, and for a ‘happy death’ for those who will (soon) pass from this life to the next. Praise God for the good measure of health He has bestowed as well as for a peaceful passing and eternal destination for those you love.Â
For protection from worry and stress
All people, especially our children, deserve to live in peace — knowing that everything will be alright when they lay their heads down at night. However, most people today are overwhelmed with worry and anxiety due to the uncertainty of life and circumstances. This is where our prayers of intercession are most powerful in protecting those we love from an unhealthy level of worry and stress.
For protection from being spiritually lost
In a world determined to keep all people from knowing, loving, and serving God in preparation for the next life, we have a duty as faithful believers to pray for those we love — for the spiritually lost, about to be lost, or could potentially become lost in the future. The worst place for a soul to be this side of Heaven is separated from God.Â
For guidance
We must be praying unceasingly for our loved ones that they will walk the righteous path towards God’s regardless of the cost. While we can lead a person toward that path, after a certain point we must pray for them – that they will begin seeking God’s face out of love for Him; seeking His divine will, counsel, and direction out of their own desire for Him and for their own lives.
For opportunities and proper catechesis
We want the very best for those we love, which involves both proper catechesis and the right “open doors” in life. For these “divine” doors to be opened, and for those we love to be led toward the proper teaching and understanding of Christ’s Church (which will lead them to all the proper doors being opened), we must pray specifically for this.Â

O God, our Heavenly Father, who loves mankind and are a most merciful and compassionate God, have mercy upon Your servants …
[say the name(s) of the person you are praying for]… for whom I humbly pray to You to care for and protect. O God, be their guide and guardian in all their endeavors, lead them in the path of Your Truth, and draw them nearer to You, so that they may lead a godly and righteous life in Your love as they do Your will in all things. Give them Your grace, and mercy so that they may be patient, hardworking, tireless, devout, and charitable. Defend them against the assaults of the enemy and grant them wisdom and strength to resist all temptation and corruption, and direct them in the way of Salvation, through the goodness of Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, and the prayers of His Immaculate Mother. Amen.
