Prayer to Saint Joseph for Protection from Evil
To thee, O blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our affliction,
and having implored the help of thy thrice holy Spouse,
we now, with hearts filled with confidence, earnestly beg thee
also to take us under thy protection.
Defend, O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen
off-spring of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, O most loving Father,
all blight of error and corruption.
Aid us from on high, most valiant defender, in this conflict with
the powers of darkness. And even as of old thou didst rescue the
Child Jesus from the peril of His life, so now defend God’s
Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity.
Shield us ever under thy patronage, that, following thine example
and strengthened by thy help, we may live a holy life, die a happy death,
and attain to everlasting bliss in Heaven. Amen.
Why is Saint Joseph so powerful against evil?
While detailed accounts of St. Joseph’s life remains scarce, we learn from holy Scripture and Sacred Tradition about his unshakeable faith, assiduous perseverance, admirable purity, and exceptional humility — all of which made him the saintly step-father of God Himself on earth.
The Church, in her wisdom, left the faithful with a legacy and series of beautiful invocations in St. Josephs honor called the Litany of St. Joseph. Herein we find a particularly interesting title: St. Joseph, “terror of demons.” Why is this?
The Church teaches that given the grandeur of his vocation — the protection, sustenance, and care of the Blessed Mother and our Lord Jesus Christ as head of the Holy Family — we can expect that God endowed him with a supernatural amount of grace to have the wisdom, strength, and courage to carry out such a lofty life mission. As such, we can be certain that, as the sublime icon of manliness and pillar of strength, St. Joseph sows a terrible fear among the powers of darkness given the noble task under his watch.
Being pure in heart, body and soul, as well as also being the protector of Christ’s Church on earth, in face of such sublime purity, power, and holiness it would farfetched to believe that the ugliness of the infernal spirits do not cower in fear of such power.
7 Signal Graces obtained through St. Joseph’s Intercession
First, those who invoke him shall obtain from God, by his intercession, the gift of chastity, and shall not be conquered by the temptation of the senses;
Secondly, they shall receive particular graces to deliver them from sin;
Thirdly, they shall obtain a true devotion to the Blessed Virgin;
Fourthly, they shall have a good and happy death, and in that all-decisive moment be defended against the assaults of Satan;
Fifthly, they shall be delivered when expedient for them, from bodily sufferings, and shall find help in their afflictions;
Sixthly, if married, they shall be blessed with offspring;
Seventhly, the demons shall have extreme dread of the glorious name of St. Joseph.
With so many graces to be obtained through his powerful intercession, let us not tarry nor hesitate in asking humbly for the protection and aid of dear St. Joseph, Terror of Demons. St. Joseph, pray for us!
