The Lord’s Comfort Will Delight Your Soul – Psalm 94:19

When my anxious thoughts multiply within me,
Your comfort delights my soul.

Reflection

The variety of translations of this verse are good at describing what anxiety feels like: “the many cares of your heart,” “great worry,” “when doubts fill your mind,” etc. Perhaps you are someone who has struggled with anxiety for much of your life, or especially now during uncertain times. But even if you aren’t riddled by anxious thoughts now, you have likely felt the weight of anxiety at certain times throughout your life.

Think about what is happening in your life right now. Perhaps you are facing financial hardship, work or study deadlines, struggling with the discipline of a child, or maybe you are having difficulties in your marriage; feeling alone and uncertain about what you should do next. All of these life cares weigh us down … and oftentimes we do not know how to fix them. They are out of our control. So what are we called to do? We are to bring all our cares to the foot of the Cross and share them with Jesus. Trust that He will console and help you … because He will. As the psalmist experienced firsthand, the Lord’s comfort will delight your soul.

“When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your comfort delights my soul” – Psalm 94:19.

Prayer

God, thank You for bringing life anew each morning. Even though we may have woken up today with a lot of cares and concerns, we pray for the ability to trust in You completely. We pray that You will help us sort out the things that are within our control, and to leave in Your care completely all the things that are not. We love You, and we pray this all in Your holy Name. Amen.
