Teach Me Your Way, Lord – Psalm 86:11

Teach me Your way, Lord, that I may rely on Your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your Name.

Reflection

You may have experienced what it is like to have your heart pulled in different directions. It isn’t always something bad that creates confusion in our lives either. Sometimes two good options present themselves and, with prayer, you’ll be left to make the best decision possible. Maybe it is an unexpected opportunity, a career choice, where to live or what to do from here. Or, maybe your heart is being pulled between the things of God and the things of this world. To follow the ways of God, or to follow the ways of our modern world. Whatever the case may be, it is in these moments that you will be called to rely on the teachings of God and His faithfulness.

Our Good Father is always ready to guide us from the place we are now, to the place we need to go. If we have chosen the “wrong” (or “less right”) path in the past, He is always present to re-direct our steps. But we must do our part. As the psalmist did, we must make all our decisions with God in our heart and as a first priority in our lives. Then, no matter which way we choose (or have chosen), we can be sure that God will be faithful to guide us. This is grace. This is our faith in action! So, no matter what you are faced with today trust that God is with you. He sees you. He loves you. And He will lead you.

Prayer

Teach us Your ways, O Lord, and give us an undivided heart. In everything we do, guide our steps and allow us to feel Your good and holy presence. We may have taken a few wrong paths in the past but we desire above all, Lord, to do Your will — to follow the path that You have laid before us. As we move forward into this day and into our future, protect us, guide us and continue to teach us. Above all, it is You Whom we seek. In Your good and holy Name we pray, Amen.

“Teach me Your way, Lord, that I may rely on Your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your Name” -Psalm 86:11.
