Reflection

When your computer system crashes or you’ve lost your internet connection, what is your go-to way of fixing it? More often than not it is just a matter of hitting the reset button. Turning off the devices and starting them back up again. Similarly, when things are not going according to plan in our own lives, when the system has crashed, a good old fashion “reset” is in order.

The psalmist specifically names the morning as the best time to reset: “In the morning I will present my prayer to You.” Do you know what the psalmist means when he says to present our prayers to God and then “be on the watch”? He is reminding us that after we bring our petitions to the Lord, we are to wait expectantly in faith. If you went to bed last night worried, irritated or confused, bring it to God this morning with expectant faith. Take heed of the psalmist’s instruction, trusting that the Lord will hear your voice and answer you. And while you are there, while you are at the foot of the Cross, don’t forget to thank Him for the grace of today — the gift of a divine reset.

Prayer

Lord, as we direct our hearts, minds and words to You this morning, give us a fresh perspective for this day. Help us to not stay focused on what is wrong but to instead focus on the brevity of Your grace and mercy. We believe that You make all things new, bringing about beauty for ashes in all things, so we set before You our petitions in loving expectancy. It is in Your good and holy Name we pray. Amen.
