Best Bible Verses to Overcome Insomnia

There are millions of people who suffer from insomnia … especially today. People are over-worked, stressed and anxious about the future which has a direct impact on sleep. There are many other contributing factors as well such as: unhealthy eating habits, staying up too late, not enough exercise, etc. Fortunately, there is a powerful and effective way to combat insomnia but it will take a commitment to achieve the desired results.

If you are looking to combat insomnia, we need to get your mind relaxed. One of the most harmful practices to healthy sleep is staying up late and worrying about what is out of our control. What produces the most worried thoughts? Scrolling the Internet and watching the “News.” If you have a habit of watching the News and/or scrolling the internet late at night, stop it! Immediately. If it all possible, shut down all electronics at a reasonable time (at least two hours before bed). If you must have some sort of noise, try soft, relaxing music without lyrics. Dim the lights low and then … hit your knees. Yes, pray! The habitual act of praying before bed is a game-changer. Not only will it soothe your mind and soul, but you are also doing what God has asked you to do (1 Thess. 5:16-18). He wants to help you with your every need, but we must also do our part.

During your evening prayer, ask God to help for help. Ask Him to help calm your mind and your spirit. Pray about whatever it is that is bothering you, and then tell God You trust Him to take care of it. After you have prayed, meditate on a few key Scriptures that speak to you about your current situation (see below). The Word of God is alive and nurturing; the repetitiveness of reading Scripture verses will cause you to become relaxed and sleepy (not to mention the fact that it is feeding your soul with everything good!). Holy Scripture is known for its miraculous healing attributes. It will fill your senses with a supernatural peace that transcends your finite understanding. Divine peace, attained only through that which is Holy (God and His Word), will lead you to a calmer spirit which in return allows the body to decompress and, ultimately, sleep.

For anyone struggling with insomnia, these Best Bible Verses to Overcome Insomnia are for you. The first few nights incorporating Scripture meditation may feel awkward, as breaking old habits and developing new ones is never easy, but it will be well-worth it. Be patient. Go easy on yourself. Night after night, just keep trusting God. His Word will begin seeping into your soul and one night, seemingly out of nowhere, you will find yourself laying your head on your pillow and — wala! You will restfully awaken to the sun shining and birds singing.

Hallelujah and Sweet dreams!
