Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
Relieve the troubles of my heart
and free me from my anguish.
Psalm 25:16-17
5 Reassuring Psalms For When You Worry
We will experience times of worry, and if we’re not careful that worry will steal our peace and consume us if we let it. You might be going through a time like hat right now. The good news is, there is Good News! God is always with His children when they worry, and He wants to reassure you that your worries do not (and will not have the final say. But we must do our part. We must continually surrender our anxieties to God and trust that He will take care of it. If we do, we will not only sleep better at night, we will feel God’s presence with us helping us every step of the way.
The best way to conquer your worries is with God and with His Word. If you are currently in a season of stress and anxiety, here are Five Must Read Psalms For When You Worry.
God Strengthens and Delivers Us In Seasons of Worry
Psalm 25:16-18
Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
Relieve the troubles of my heart
and free me from my anguish.
Look on my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.
In this verse, David cries out to the Lord for guidance and deliverance. He is weighed down by life’s heavy burdens and looks to God for relief. Amidst our worries, do we look to God for relief or do we rely on ourselves? The truth is, it is God alone who can deliver us which ultimately reminds us of His sovereignty. When we seek God with our whole heart, recognizing that He is with us during both the good and challenging times, it helps to sustain us when we worry.
You may feel lonely today and it may seem that God is distant. But this Psalm affirms and reassures that God has not forgotten about you. He promises that if we have faith, He will uplift us during seasons of anxiety, distress and despair. God will not dismiss our concerns, but He also wants us to seek Him in times of worry. Today, be encouraged that God is present and able to help you overcome all your worries and anxieties.
Seek God When You Worry
Psalm 35:4
May those who seek my life
be disgraced and put to shame;
may those who plot my ruin
be turned back in dismay.
God will deliver us from our worries and fears. His deliverance however, does not mean that our circumstances will immediately cease. Rather, our comfort will slowly build as we rely more and more on God and His grace.
God does not wish for us to carry our burdens alone. As we seek Him daily, humbly acknowledging our shortcomings and casting our cares unto Him, we will begin to relinquish all that ails us. Our God can handle every aspect of our life — including everything that makes us worried. We do not have to hold back or compartmentalize our anxieties from God. We can own them, confess them, and be set totally free. Today, seek God. Surrender everything to Him and receive the support that is available to you in order to move forward with real hope for the future.
God Helps Us When We Worry
Psalm 121:1-2
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth.
When we worry, it often means that we are trying to fix a situation, person, or circumstance on our own. We become overwhelmed, anxious and weighed down with the burden of trying to “handle” it in our own strength. God does not want us to try and control our circumstances. He wants us to surrender everything to Him and to trust His timing.
Worrying will always steal our peace and our joy. It will cause unwanted stress, health conditions, and a whole host of other issues. Psalm 121:1-2 encourages us to look to God for help with our worries. David always sought the Lord for guidance and wisdom. Like Him, we too should look to God first as the Source of our strength and direction, casting all our worries unto Him and not other people. We are not in the “fight of life” alone. God desires and lovingly welcomes us to cast all that concerns us into His providential care. God is with us. He knows what keeps us up at night and He also knows how to perfectly remedy every situation. Trust Him.
God Hears Our Every Worry
Psalm 116:1-2
I love the Lord, for He heard my voice;
He heard my cry for mercy.
Because He turned His ear to me,
I will call on Him as long as I live.
God does not dismiss our worries or concerns. If He seems distant, He may be waiting for us to trust Him more. To have faith that He will take care of it. Worry is the opposite of faith, and God does not want our anxieties to consume or overtake us. When we pray, God is there. He knows what we are facing and has given us the courage, strength and tools to overcome with Him.
As we navigate through life’s challenges, there is comfort in knowing that God hears our cries. He is committed to helping us while strengthening our faith in the process. No matter what is on your heart or is weighing you down today, God knows, sees and actively listens. He has your best interest at heart and has a great plan for you (Jeremiah 29:11). He is reminding you to seek His face and His Word daily. Rest assured that when we seek God’s face (His Word) for wisdom, He will always lead and direct us along the right path.
God Covers Us During Our Deepest Times of Worry
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff,
they comfort me.
This familiar verse in the twenty-third Psalm confirms that God has not abandoned us in our deepest times of anxiety, sorrow, or uncertainty. God is always with us, promising to comfort us and to cover us with His wings. Whatever you may be facing right now that seems overwhelming, do not lose heart. Do not lose hope! Let God’s Word and His loving presence minister to your soul, lifting you up out of this season of worry and into a season of faith in Him. Prayerfully meditating on these Psalms will help get you there. These are unsettling times, and worrying about tomorrow will sometimes come. But let us take comfort in the great news that God delivers, hears, strengthens, helps and covers us when anxiety strikes. Revisit these Psalms often and prayerfully reflect on every word. Continue to practice surrendering your cares to God each day and watch how your worries begin to fade away.
