Tremble, and do not sin;
meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still.
Psalm 4:4
Be Angry, But Do Not Sin – Psalm 4:4
Tremble [with anger or fear], and do not sin;
Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still.
Have you ever been frustrated enough to notice that you were trembling? Sometimes we can get so overwhelmed with emotions of anger that we tremble. Sometimes our emotions are justified, and sometimes they’re not. Whatever the reason, we are exhorted not to sin in our anger. Instead, we are to calm down, meditate, and be still. God is our Vindicator and if we go to Him with what bothers us, He will take care of it.
God is not so concerned with the fact that we get upset. He understands the emotions of His creation. But acting out in anger is not only a sin, it never achieves anything good. When we do that, we are trying to take matters into our own hands when really we need to be giving it to God. Today, be aware of what is upsetting you and find a place to be still. Give it to God, the One who will give you peace while He solves all your problems.
Father, help us to say in control of our emotions today. Lead us in a way that avoids the path of sin and into Your peace. Amen.
