Best Psalms of Thanksgiving for Big Blessings

What is “Thanksgiving”? Thanksgiving is an act of giving thanks for which we are grateful. According to the dictionary, the word ‘thanksgiving’ means: “a public acknowledgement or celebration of divine goodness.” Even the dictionary recognizes the connection between thanksgiving and the divine! While we generally give thanks for the gifts and benefits we’ve been given here on earth, we should be especially mindful to acknowledge and give thanks to the Giver of all these good gifts and benefits — both here on earth and in the life to come. The practice of giving thanks to the Lord is so powerful that there has been set aside a day in the United States for just that purpose: to praise, worship and thank God for all He has done and given to us — i.e. our families, friends, life, health, and the opportunity to draw closer to the Kingdom of God while on earth.

When we put it in perspective, it’s difficult not to be awe-struck by the great mysteries of God — and how blessed we are to be a part of it. One particular book in the Bible is especially powerful when it comes to the thanksgiving of God’s goodness and sovereign power. The psalmists certainly benefited from their attitude of gratitude, and we, too, will benefit from ours. The hymns, songs and poems in the Book of Psalms reflect on the great wonders of God. By us prayerfully reflecting on them, they have the power to transform our not-so-grateful attitude into one of pure gratitude — opening the door to the same life-giving and transformative graces the psalmists had experienced.

No matter what you are going through today, you can find peace and joy through prayer and thanksgiving. When you read the Psalms and emulate the psalmists by giving God all the glory through thanksgiving, God promises to bestow onto you abundant graces and strengthened faith. Remember, we can never out give God! The more we praise, worship and honor Him, the more He promises to show up in our lives in ways we cannot imagine. Read over these Best Psalms of Thanksgiving for Blessings — alone or around a Thanksgiving table — to draw closer to God and open the doors of blessing, hope, and strengthened faith. It is our hope that these collected Psalms will inspire gratitude in your heart — because gratitude really does change everything. Happy Thanksgiving!

Best Psalms of Thanksgiving for Big Blessings

Let’s begin with Psalm 107:31
Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind. Amen.”

Psalm 138

I will praise You, Lord, with all my heart;
    before the “gods” I will sing Your praise.
I will bow down toward Your Holy Temple
    and will praise Your Name
    for Your unfailing love and Your faithfulness,
for You have so exalted Your solemn decree
    that it surpasses Your fame.
When I called, You answered me;
    You greatly emboldened me.

May all the kings of the earth praise You, Lord,
    when they hear what You have decreed.
May they sing of the ways of the Lord,
    for the glory of the Lord is great.

Though the Lord is exalted, He looks kindly on the lowly;
    though lofty, He sees them from afar.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
    you preserve my life.
You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes;
    with Your right hand You save me.
The Lord will vindicate me;
    Your love, Lord, endures forever—
    do not abandon the works of Your hands.

Psalm 118

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
    His love endures forever.

Shouts of joy and victory
    resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!
    The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;
    the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
I will not die but live,
    and will proclaim what the Lord has done.
The Lord has chastened me severely,
    but He has not given me over to death.
Open for me the gates of the righteous;
    I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.
This is the gate of the Lord
    through which the righteous may enter.
I will give You thanks, for You answered me;
    You have become my salvation.

Lord, save us!
    Lord, grant us success!

Blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord.
    From the house of the Lord we bless You.
The Lord is God,
    and He has made His light shine on us.
With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession
    up to the horns of the altar.

You are my God, and I will praise You;
    You are my God, and I will exalt You.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
    His love endures forever.

Psalm 100

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
    Worship the Lord with gladness;
    come before Him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
    It is He who made us, and we are His;
    we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
    and His courts with praise;
    give thanks to Him and praise His Name.
For the Lord is good and His love endures forever;
    His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 136

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
who by His understanding made the Heavens,
His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
 who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
 the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
 the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.

He remembered us in our low estate
His love endures forever.
 and freed us from our enemies.
His love endures forever.
 He gives food to every creature.
His love endures forever.

 Give thanks to the God of Heaven.
His love endures forever.

Psalm 95

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
    let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before Him with thanksgiving
    and extol Him with music and song.

For the Lord is the great God,
    the great King above all gods.
In His hand are the depths of the earth,
    and the mountain peaks belong to Him.
The sea is His, for He made it,
    and His hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for He is our God
    and we are the people of His pasture,
    the flock under His care.

Psalm 106

Praise the Lord.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
    His love endures forever.

Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord
    or fully declare His praise?
Blessed are those who act justly,
    who always do what is right.

Remember me, Lord, when You show favor to Your people,
    come to my aid when You save them,
that I may enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones,
    that I may share in the joy of Your nation
    and join Your inheritance in giving praise.

Psalm 138

I will extol the Lord at all times;
    His praise will always be on my lips.
I will glory in the Lord;
    let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the Lord with me;
    let us exalt His Name together.

I sought the Lord, and He answered me;
    He delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to Him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard Him;
    He saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him,
    and He delivers them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.

Psalm 111

Praise the Lord.

I will extol the Lord with all my heart
    in the council of the upright and in the assembly.

Great are the works of the Lord;
    they are pondered by all who delight in them.
Glorious and majestic are His deeds,
    and His righteousness endures forever.
He has caused His wonders to be remembered;
    the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
He provides food for those who fear Him;
    He remembers His covenant forever.

Psalm 92

It is good to praise the Lord
    and make music to Your Name, O Most High,
proclaiming Your love in the morning
    and Your faithfulness at night,
to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
    and the melody of the harp.

For You make me glad by Your deeds, Lord;
    I sing for joy at what Your hands have done.
How great are Your works, Lord,
    how profound Your thoughts!

Psalm 30

I will exalt You, Lord,
    for You lifted me out of the depths
    and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
Lord my God, I called to You for help,
    and You healed me.
You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead;
    You spared me from going down to the pit.

Sing the praises of the Lord, You his faithful people;
    praise His Holy Name.
For His anger lasts only a moment,
    but His favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
    but rejoicing comes in the morning.

You turned my wailing into dancing;
    You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
that my heart may sing Your praises and not be silent.
    Lord my God, I will praise You forever.

Psalm 57

I will praise You, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of You among the peoples.
For great is Your love, reaching to the heavens;
    Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

Be exalted, O God, above the Heavens;
    let Your glory be over all the earth.

“I will praise God’s Name in song
    and glorify Him with thanksgiving” — Psalm 69:30

What does Thanksgiving to God mean?

The act of giving Thanks to God means to acknowledge His benefits and favors. Thanksgiving Day is a great opportunity to celebrate God’s divine favor and kindness in your life and in your family’s lives. Give all praise and glory to God and be sure that He will bless and protect you and your family.

What are some blessings of being grateful?

Being grateful has shown to limit stress and increase happiness. The sense of “feeling good” that a thankful sprit brings has proven to increase immunity, lower blood pressure, improve relationships and, yes, help you age gracefully. But most important of all, God honors a grateful spirit. Philippians 4:6-7 exhorts: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And [then] the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
