When You Pass Through Rough Waters, God is With You — Isaiah 43:2

“When you pass through waters, I will be with you;
    through rivers, you shall not be swept away.
When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned,
    nor will flames consume you.”

In both blessing and purifying punishment, God relentlessly and faithfully shows His steadfast love for His children. Whether He is blessing you today or putting you through the tests and trials of life, trust Him. Be patient. Your Father in Heaven is faithful to answer you — revealing (once more) His richness in mercy and kindness. But you must do your part. You must diligently seek Him, trusting Him in all your ways. That includes trusting what He says.

In the verse directly preceding this Verse of the Day, the Lord says: “Do not fear, I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine” (v 1). God says not to fear! This should give you great comfort. Not only is God promising that all things are under perfect control, He has called you redeemed — justified and victorious. He has claimed you as His own. That means, whatever rough waters you find yourself wading in today, you will not be swept away in them. The flames of temptation and tribulation cannot consume you. No hurdle, no challenge, no obstacle, is too powerful for you … because you are already His. So fear not, Child of God. He is with you. Trust what He has promised you.

A Prayer for Today

“Lord God, thank You for being a merciful and loving Father. Allow us to feel more of Your protective presence today as we wade farther out into uncertain waters; tormented by the flames of this life. While waves continue to batter against the sides of our faith, we lean even harder into Your Word; declaring the faithful promises spoken of the prophet Isaiah: ‘We will not be swept away. Our faith will not be swallowed up in flames of defeat … for You are with us. We are Yours — called by name, protected and redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus. Aw yes, the victory is coming! And all glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.”
