Post Election Day — Verse of the Day: Psalm 37:7

“Be still before the Lord; wait for Him. Do not be provoked by the prosperous, nor by malicious schemers.”
Psalm 37:7

Psalm 37 responds to a commonly asked question: Why do the wicked seem to prosper while the good seem to suffer? The Psalm answers by stating that the current situation — or how things appear to be — is only temporary. At the right time, God will reverse things — rewarding the good and punishing the wicked. In the meantime, we must do our part. We have to trust Him — both in His justice and in His timing of justice — and not in what we see and hear around us. In the end, good will triumph and those who do evil will be punished.

Today, do as the Word commands and be still before the Lord. Wait for Him. Trust in Him. Do not be provoked to anger and revenge by the agitators, schemers, liars and corrupt. Instead, the just person — the child of the most High (you!) — must maintain a faith that displays habitual patience, perseverance, hope and trust that the reward is coming at the perfect time. Keep your eyes fixed on the only One who knows all things … and has promised victory. You are in great hands. Trust your Father in Heaven.

Today’s Prayer

“Lord Jesus, we trust in You. We will not be provoked by evildoers, nor will we envy those who live by the flesh. We trust in Your holy righteousness and we vow to maintain goodness and peace (v 3). Because You know and see all things, Lord, we trust that You will act justly and swiftly on our behalf; that all things will work for the greater good. Today we pray for Your righteousness to shine down like the dawn; for Your justice to strike like the noonday (v 6). We stand before You in stillness — yet in soldier-like confidence and solidarity — just as You have commanded us. And we thank You for promising the everlasting victory. We love You and we long for You. It is in Your good and holy Name we pray, Amen.”

  1. Great verse to focus on instead of the noise.
