Verse of the Day: Love The Lord Your God With All Your Heart–Matthew 22:37

Verse of the Day: Love The Lord Your God With All Your Heart–Matthew 22:37

“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” –Matt. 22:37.

A scholar of the Law once tested Jesus by asking which commandment was greatest (v 36). Jesus’ response? “You shall love the Lord, Your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

The first and greatest commandment is to love our God. To keep Him as the primary object of our affection. When we obey this command, our lives operate as they should. God promises to fill us with joy, love, peace and purpose. Many people today make the (innocent) mistake of placing their lives (spouse, children, vocation, money, worldly desires, etc) above God. This inversion places creation above the Creator, which inevitably causes an imbalance to the natural operations of life. Keeping God first, loving him with all our heart, mind and soul, allows for life to flow as it should.

We are commanded (and hard-wired) to do the greatest thing in the greatest way for the greatest One. By obeying the first commandment, not only will our lives run more peacefully, but we’ll awaken to the true purpose of which we’ve been created. So as you reflect on this powerful verse today, allow every breath to be another opportunity to better love, learn and serve the One Who first did all these things for you.

37 “[Jesus replied] to him, ‘You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the greatest and the first commandment. 39 The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself'” –Matthew 22:37-39.
