How Long, Lord? Will You Hide Yourself Forever?–Psalm 89:46-48

How Long, Lord? Will You Hide Yourself Forever?–Psalm 89:46-48

How long, Lord? Will You hide Yourself forever?
How long will Your wrath burn like fire?
47 Remember how fleeting is my life.
For what futility You have created all humanity!
48 Who can live and not see death,
or who can escape the power of the grave?

Waiting on the Lord can sometimes feel like ages. Like the psalmist, you cry out in prayer, “How long, Lord? How long will You hide Yourself from me?” And other times, while in the global flames of chastisement, you may wonder: How long will Your wrath burn like fire? As we read over this passage, it’s comforting to know that we are not alone in our feelings or experiences. Those who traveled before us had experienced similar periods of waiting, doubt and refinement. But one thing remained the same. Our forbearers praised God in the end – because our Lord is always trustworthy and faithful to deliver. His timing is perfect; His ways Holy and just.

If you are going through a period of waiting and uncertainty today, believe with all your heart that God is going to work everything for good. He is going to show up in ways you cannot imagine, and He will be right on time. Our job isn’t to ask how and when. Our job is to have total and surrendered faith in Christ.
