Guide Me in Your Truth and Teach Me, Lord–Psalm 25:4-7

Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways” –Psalm 25:7.

Psalm 25 begins with this affirmation: “In You, Lord my God, I put my trust.” It continues, then, with these requests (vv. 4-7):

Show me Your ways, Lord,
    teach me Your paths.
Guide me in Your Truth and teach me,
    for You are God my Savior,
    and my hope is in You all day long.
Remember, Lord, Your great mercy and love,
    for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth
    and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
    for you, Lord, are good.”

As the Lord shows us His ways, teaches us His paths, and guides us in His Truth, our faith is transformed into faithfulness.

And, as the Lord remembers us in mercy and love—not remembering our frailties and failures, so neither should we—the goodness and grace of the Lord surrounds us as a blessed gift.

The Psalm concludes with a prayer for protection—for the individual and the nation (v 22)—as integrity and uprightness provide their own shelter:

Guard my life and rescue me;
    do not let me be put to shame,
    for I take refuge in You.
May integrity and uprightness protect me,
    because my hope, Lord, is in You
” –Psalm 25:20-21.

Those who take refuge in the Lord, so the Psalmist affirms, will not be put to shame.
