Answer me when I call to You,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
The Lord Will Answer You When You Call Out To Him – Psalm 4:1-3
1 Answer me when I call to You,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
2 How long will you people turn My glory into shame?
How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?
3 Know that the Lord has set apart His faithful servant for Himself;
the Lord hears when I call to Him.
–Psalm 4:1-3
Reflection
The psalmist pleads with God to relieve him from his distress, to have mercy on him and to hear his prayers. Notice what God asks in return, “How long will you people turn My glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek [after] false gods?” If we want God to answer our prayers and to bless our lives, we need to obey Him. He is asking us to set aside all false idols in our lives and to live by His Commandments. What is a false idol? Anything that is taking precedence over your worship of God. If your career or the pursuit of making money, for example, is taking first place in your life and over time spent with God, you are seeking a false idol. Like the psalmist did, ask God for forgiveness today and then turn from any sin that is currently holding you back. The Lord has made it clear that He has set you apart for Himself. When you are faithful to Him, obedient and humble to the Word of God, He will hear your every prayer when you call to Him.
Prayerfully read over and meditate on this truth-giving psalm. Think about what God is asking of you today and then, with His grace, do it. Obedience to our Lord is for our greater good and eternal benefit.
