Verse of the Day: October 7th — John 20:29
“Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
—John 20:29
Christ’s disciple, Thomas (known today as “doubting Thomas”), wanted proof of Jesus’ resurrected body. He wanted to see Him and touch the crucifixion wounds before He would fully believe. When Jesus appeared a second time to the disciples (post resurrection), He granted Thomas his request — to see Him and touch His wounds. Upon doing so John exclaimed: “My Lord and my God!” Pay close attention to Jesus’ response: “Have you come to believe because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
The next time you are tempted not to believe — when faith is wavering– lean into this verse. Tell God that even though you can’t “see”, you believe.
This verse is a beatitude (supreme blessedness) on you and all future generations; for faith, not sight, matters.
Prayer of the Day
“Lord Jesus, give us strong faith that believes without seeing; hopes without touching; obedience without worldly reward. Help us to carry our cross through any storm; and to pray without ceasing. Give us a heart filled with charity for neighbor and desire to surrender all to You at any cost. You are our beginning, our now, and the Author of our end. Strengthen our faith, Lord! May we always believe and obey in Your unfailing and saving Word, power and presence in our lives. Forever and ever, You are our God, our life and our love. In Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.”
