The Number 40 has significant value in the Bible. It usually signifies a time of testing, trial or probation. For example, Jesus was tempted in the Bible for forty days and forty nights by the devil (Matt 4:1-11). After His resurrection and before His ascension, Jesus was on earth for forty days to establish the Church (Acts 1:3). After being freed from slavery, the Israelites spent 40 years wandering the desert before entering the Promised Land (Joshua 4:6).
