Mary’s Christmas Dream
With Christmas right around the corner, we must make a concerted effort (especially these days) to put Christ back in Christmas. While the world tries to convince us that Christmas is all about bright lights, food, drink and gifts for one another, the real reason for Christmas is CHRIST. He is indeed the reason for the season because it is His birthday and the only reason we celebrate this incredible holiday.
This is why Mary’s Christmas Dream is so important. As you read through the following dream, think about how you and your family can bring Christ back into the festivities this season in a real and meaningful way. After all, He is the only reason we celebrate; the only reason we have Christmas to begin with.
Mary’s Christmas Dream
[From Mother Mary to Joseph – for deeper reflection]I had a dream, Joseph.
I don’t understand it, not really, but I think it was about a birthday celebration for our Son, Jesus. I think that was what was all about. The people had been preparing for it for about six weeks. They had decorated the house and bought new clothes. They’d gone shopping many times and bought elaborate gifts for others. But these gifts were not for our Son. They wrapped them in beautiful paper and tied them with lovely bows and stacked them under a tree. Yes, a tree, Joseph, right in their house!
They’d decorated these trees also. The branches were full of glowing balls and sparkling ornaments. There was even a figure on the top of the tree. It looked like how an angel might look. Oh, yes, it was beautiful; and everyone was laughing and so happy. They were all excited about the gifts they were about to receive, too. They gave the gifts to each other, Joseph, but … it was so strange, nothing for our Son. I don’t even think they knew Him. They never mentioned His Name nor talked about Him around the dinner table or upon opening gifts.
Doesn’t it seem odd for people to go to all that trouble to celebrate someone’s birthday and not even acknowledge Him? Even worse, to celebrate someone’s birthday who they don’t even know? Maybe don’t even care to know. I had the strangest feeling that if our Son had gone to this celebration He would have felt like an intruder.
Everything was so beautiful, Joseph, and everyone was so happy, but it made me want to cry. How sad for Jesus — not to be wanted at His own birthday party. Oh Joseph, I’m so glad that it was only a dream. How terrible if that had been real.
