Be Merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress;
But I trust in You, Lord…
My times are in Your hands.
Psalm 31:9, 14-15
Be Merciful to Me, Lord, for I am in Distress — Psalm 31:9
9 Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
my soul and body with grief.
14 But I trust in You, Lord;
I say, ‘You are my God.’
15 My times are in Your hands;
deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
from those who pursue me.
Prayerfully reflect on this psalm throughout the day today. Read it over and over; meditate on every word. Think about how the psalmist cried out to the Lord centuries ago, and how this same plea speaks to you today: “Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress … But I trust in You, Lord … My times are in Your hands.” The psalmist knew all about conflict, stress, fear and uncertainty, and his words remind us today to trust in the Lord no matter what. That is faith; and faith is a prerequisite for God’s blessings and victory.
“But I trust in You, Lord; I [will always] say, ‘You are my God.'”
